New York native Eva Balzano loves Boston sports

When talking about sports with Eva Balzano, you will probably hear her mention something related to Boston.
Eva is a first-year student at Texas Christian University. She was born in Boston, but lived in Connecticut during her childhood. Then she moved to New York, where she currently resides.
Although her home may be in New York, Eva is, ironically, a die-hard Boston sports fan.
Sports aren’t just something that Eva enjoys watching from her couch. They are something that she wants to continue with in her career. Her majors are journalism and sports broadcasting. Most people do not know that she applied to TCU as a marketing major.
“I was just looking for a way to do business without all the math,” Eva said. Switching from business to journalism is quite a jump, and Eva herself contemplated what she wanted to do in this next stage of her life.
Throughout high school, Eva was heavily involved with the athletic department. She became involved in doing social media for her high school’s athletic department as well as sideline interviews. In her senior year, she ran the student section with her twin brother.
Her best memory of running the student section was during her senior year when her school’s hockey team “swept the conference and the state title.” She loved getting to be a part of the student section. Their stands were not only filled with passionate students, but her twin brother was playing on the ice.
Eva and her brother Stephen are so close to the point where they haven’t been apart for more than 12 days. This makes the college transition difficult. Stephen is going to school in Connecticut. This makes the distance between them hours away.
Although the time apart will be hard, Eva says she is “grateful that my family is a huge support system.” She continued, “I am lucky enough that I have basically two families between my mom and stepdad, as well as my dad and stepmom.”
When hearing Eva speak about her family, it is easy to notice how much of an impact they have on her life. This support is essential in college, especially as she aims to work for the New England Sports Network. At the network, she hopes to start a sports podcast.
Eva’s passion for sports is strong. Although she is going to college in Texas, she hopes that she can go back to her roots in New England. She hopes to eventually cover her favorite thing: Boston professional teams.
