Reestablishment of sorority changes TCU’s recruitment numbers

In 2023, Kappa Delta was reintroduced to Texas Christian University after it was removed from campus in 1993. This welcomed change has caused other sorority member class numbers to decrease.
“Kappa Delta was selected as one of eight sororities to inaugurate national sorority affiliation at Texas Christian University,” according to TCU Kappa Delta’s website.
The sorority left campus after low membership numbers.
Although Kappa Delta returned to TCU in 2023, it did not participate in the primary recruitment process until this year. Going from 12 sororities on campus to 13 opens up a new option for potential new members to join.
According to data collected by students in the TCU Introduction to Journalism class, nine out of 13 sororities on campus decreased in member class numbers from 2023 to 2024.
Last year, 10 out of 13 sororities all had member class numbers in the 80s. The numbers this year were more spread out.
The change in recruitment numbers across TCU sororities for 2024 has caused uncertainty for 2025. Recruitment teams may have to shift their former recruitment style to reach quota numbers.
Recruitment teams had to cut more girls this cycle. They did this to make sure that Kappa Delta was able to have enough girls in their member class. Many sororities had difficulty predicting how KD would impact this process. Kappa Delta recruited 101 freshmen this year, beating out every other sorority by over 10 people.
A quick explanation of this could be that TCU’s female enrollment number decreased in the past year. The number of women went from 1572 to 1508 this admissions cycle. Still, that doesn’t address Kappa Delta doubling their numbers over one year.
Kappa Delta may be new to campus, but they are already impacting the community. According to their website, their first philanthropy event, KD Klassic raised over $30,000 for their beneficiaries. This drew many girls to Kappa Delta for this recruitment cycle.
“After talking with the girls in KD, it was just a gut feeling that this was where I was meant to be,” new member Madison Beach said.
The newness of Kappa Delta is exciting to some girls looking for ways to lead and pave the way for a legacy.
