A Reflection of the Trinity Trails: A Fort Worth Gem
By Anna Gasowski
As I walked along the Trinity Trails in Fort Worth, I felt a sense of peace.
I passed by buzzing restaurants, like Quince and Woodshed, with people eating and enjoying each other's company. They were laughing and smiling while sharing a good meal.
The weather is humid as it has just rained all morning. Still, little puddles of rain are left behind. The breeze is a blessing from the hot August that came prior.
Runners come by breathing heavily, and you can hear their footsteps as they walk by. Some appear to do this regularly, not even breaking a sweat.
The music blasts from the phones of some people, having no care in the world about who hears their unusual song preferences.
Many bikers ride by and exchange a friendly hello as they go past. They come quickly but appreciate when others kindly move to the side.
The trails are quiet when no one is around; I hear the sounds of cars driving along University Drive and over the nearby bridge.
The flowing water is beaming from the sunset above. A break in the trail brings a small waterfall where the water glides gently over the rocks, making a peaceful sound.
The musk of the Trinity River leaves a unique smell, but those of us from Fort Worth are used to it at this point after constantly witnessing the musky smell.
My Texas Christian University shirt caught the attention of a young girl. We began conversing, and she asked me if I attended. I told her yes, and she responded that she hoped she could be a student one day. We continued talking for a bit, but eventually I continued along my walk.
That brief conversation reminded me of my younger self, always looking up to older TCU students, hoping I could one day be in their shoes.
As the walk continues, people run the same routes, and faces become familiar.
I counted probably a dozen dogs of different breeds, with many individuals taking them for a walk. These dogs reflected the different kinds of people we interact with in life: different ages, different appearances, and different stories.
Each person is there for a unique reason: training for a marathon, going for a gentle stroll, walking a dog, or spending time with a loved one.
But all share the same love for getting exercise through the beautiful nature of Fort Worth.
